Dr. Cao has described the early events in hematopoiesis by imaging the engraftment and proliferation of small numbers of hematopeitic stem cells. The imaging strategies that he has developed are now being applied to the study of factors that control engraftment and direct stem cell homing.

Dr. Hardy studies the mechanisms of pathogenesis and immune control of infection in several models and has applied imaging strategies to reveal novel sites of infection and unique replication patterns of Listeria monocytogenes in vivo.

Research Summary

Dr. O'Connell-Rodwell has used imaging strategies to dissect the molecular physiology of thermal stress as a step toward the improvement of microsurgical approaches using lasers. Dr. O'Connell-Rodwell is also using molecular imaging approaches to advance our understanding of hearing loss with the hope of improving therapies for the deaf.

Dr. Zhao is developing dual function reporter genes and using these to reveal the regulatory pathways of cellular response to hypoxia in glioma models. She is also studying the role of DNA methylation in the regulation of heme oxygenase I expression.
